Eastern Cape
|
The San were the first people known to live in the Eastern Cape. The San were displaced by the Khoi early in the second millennium AD. In 1488 Bartholomew Diaz sailed to the Eastern Cape and erected a stone cross at Kwaaihoek. The Dutch trekkers began moving into the Eastern Cape in the mid 1700's. During the early 1800’s there was a large influx of English settlers and as a result the area is rich in English traditions and history. The Eastern Cape is the second largest province of the nine in South Africa. Its landscape varies from dry, desolate areas to lush forests and mountainous areas. It boasts the worlds biggest surfing waves, the highest bungee jumping bridge in the Southern hemisphere, South Africa's longest coast line as well as snow slopes in winter. The area is totally free of malaria. Click here for more information or to make a booking. |
